This book is considered one of the greatest works of world literature. For this work, Ernest Hemingway received the Pulitzer Prize in 1953 and the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1954.

The Story: This story is about the life struggle of Santiago, an old and experienced Cuban fisherman. He goes to sea for 84 consecutive days but returns empty-handed, without catching a single fish. The other fishermen consider him unlucky.

However, the undeterred old man, on the 85th day, goes alone in his small boat to the deep part of the ocean. There, a huge marlin gets caught on his fishing line. The fish is larger than his boat.

Key Features:

The Struggle: The two-day struggle between the giant fish and the lonely old man in the middle of the ocean is vividly described.

Perseverance: Despite his old age and physical exhaustion, the old man's mental fortitude and his efforts to subdue the fish are awe-inspiring.

Philosophy: When the sharks attack the marlin at the end, his struggle to protect it symbolizes humanity's struggle for existence.

The Book's Central Theme: The most famous line from this book is:

"A man can be destroyed but not defeated."

This book speaks to the resilience of the human spirit, the unwavering determination to fight until the very end, without being discouraged by failures.
